About this app
Aurora Alerts - Northern Light monitors auroral activity and provides forecasts and alerts to help users assess the possibility of seeing the northern lights. Its outlooks cover the next hour, the next three days, and up to 27 days, with sighting probabilities based on the user's location or a custom location.
Aurora forecasts and viewing conditions
The app presents current auroral activity using observed and predicted Kp indices from the U.S. Air Force Weather Agency. It also provides weather conditions, including visibility, as well as moon illumination details. These factors are presented alongside the sighting probability to give users several types of information relevant to a potential viewing opportunity.
Push alerts can notify users when there is a possibility of seeing aurora borealis. Alert preferences include selected Kp index values, solar wind data values, and a time of day, so notifications can be configured around those choices.
Solar wind information
Alongside the forecasts and activity updates, Aurora Alerts - Northern Light provides solar wind data from NASA satellites. The listed measurements include wind speed, Bz, Bt, and density. Users can set alerts based on chosen solar wind values, as well as Kp index thresholds and time of day. Together, these tools let users follow activity, check location-specific forecasts, and receive notifications tied to their selected criteria.
