How to Loot is a puzzle game in which players use strategic thinking to overcome obstacles on a quest to rescue a princess from monsters. Its documented play focuses on solving levels, with several modes offering different ways to approach that activity.

Classic mode and level progression

Classic mode is presented as the route for playing through levels and exploring the story. The game describes its levels as increasingly challenging, though it does not specify the puzzle rules or explain how each level changes. The stated objective is to work through obstacles using problem-solving rather than the action-focused approach associated with traditional knight games.

Time and Bomb mode rules

Time mode challenges players to solve puzzles quickly, making speed part of the task. Bomb mode instead sets a limit on moves, so players must work within that stated restriction. The description does not give a specific timer, move count, or further rules for either mode. These are presented as distinct challenges rather than as different character abilities.

Easy mode and character choices

Easy mode is described as a way to pass levels more easily. The game also offers a selection of characters with different abilities and styles. Players can collect characters and choose among them to customize a team; however, the available information does not explain the abilities in detail or set out rules for combining them. It recommends trying different characters for different levels, without identifying a particular combination as best.

Story and optional rewards

The story centers on becoming a hero and rescuing a princess from monsters. Classic mode specifically connects level play with exploring that story. The description also says that watching in-game ads can earn rewards such as extra coins or power-ups. It does not detail the amounts or explain what those items do, so their precise effect on puzzle play is not specified.
