YouTube Music v8.26.51 is an Android music streaming app for discovering and listening to songs, artist releases, live performances, covers, remixes, podcasts, and other music content. A Google account is required to use the service, while the basic listening experience is available without a Premium subscription.

Music library and content discovery

The app brings together a broad catalog of official songs and additional music material associated with the YouTube platform. Its library includes recordings from well-known artists, live performances, cover versions, remixes, and exclusive content. Music is organized across genres such as hip hop, rock, country, electronic, jazz, and Latin music, along with selections intended for activities including exercise, reading, concentration, relaxation, and sleep.

Trending playlists provide a way to follow currently popular songs, including official releases and notable covers. The app also offers curated mixes such as Discover Mix and New Release Mix, helping users find artists and tracks beyond their existing listening habits. Genre, mood, and activity recommendations give the catalog several ways to browse rather than relying only on a specific song or artist search.

Search, playlists, and personalized mixes

YouTube Music can suggest music based on listening preferences. Search supports song titles, artist or group names, and lines from a song, so a complete title is not always necessary to locate a recording. Recommendations can also reflect preferred genres, with daily suggestions shaped around the types of music a user commonly looks for.

The service includes thousands of curated playlists covering different genres and activities. It also creates personalized playlists and mixes based on individual listening patterns, including selections for workouts, relaxation, and focus. Users can create playlists from suggested songs and collaborate with other music fans when organizing music for a particular occasion.

Playback and supported listening features

Song lyrics are available for supported music, allowing users to follow the words while listening. The app can switch between a song's audio and music video, keeping the two forms of playback connected. This is useful when a track is available in both formats and the listener wants to change how it is viewed without leaving the service.

YouTube Music can be used across smartphones, desktop access, smart speakers, smart TVs, cars, smartwatches, and supported apps. This multi-device support allows the same service to be used in different listening environments, although the available playback experience may vary by device.

Free access and Music Premium

The free version provides access to music listening after signing in with a Google account. Advertising may appear during free playback. Music Premium is an optional paid subscription whose price varies by country. According to the supplied information, Premium removes ads, enables background playback, and provides music downloads for listening without an internet connection.

Background playback allows music to continue while another task is being used or while the phone is in sleep mode. Premium downloads place selected music in the app's library for offline listening. These features are tied to the subscription rather than being presented as standard capabilities of the free version, so users should check the offer available in their country before subscribing.

Interface and practical workflow

The interface uses a dark background with an organized display and clearly separated areas for browsing and playback. A typical workflow is to search by title, artist, or lyrics, open a result, and then continue through related recommendations, curated playlists, or a personalized mix. Users can also begin with a mood or activity playlist and refine their listening through the app's suggestions.
